October is an interesting month for anyone sitting on an unfinished plan.

The year suddenly feels finite. The holidays are getting closer. People start thinking about what they said they would do “later” and whether later has quietly become now.

For an interior designer, that can be a good moment to revisit warm leads and old inquiries that never quite turned into projects.

The follow-up does not need to be complicated. In fact, it may work better if it is almost unusually short. Instead of sending a long email explaining availability, reminding them of your services, and trying to restart the whole sales conversation, give them one simple question tied to a real deadline.

Hi [Name], were you hoping to get your renovation started before the end of the year?

That is it.

The useful part is that the deadline is already on their mind. You are not inventing urgency or manufacturing scarcity. Maybe they genuinely wanted to get the design phase started before the holidays, begin construction in January, have plans ready before spring, or make progress before a move-in date. A question like this can bring an old intention back to the surface and make it very easy for them to reply.

The same idea can be reused throughout the year whenever there is a natural transition point. Before the holidays. Before summer. Before construction starts. Before moving into a new home. Before hosting family. Before the children go back to school. The timing should fit the project rather than being forced onto it.

If you have a list of past inquiries, people who postponed, or conversations that simply went quiet, spend ten minutes going through them and send a few relevant one-line follow-ups. You may not need another hundred leads. One of the next good projects may already be sitting in your inbox.
